My name is Lisa Cook and I am the founder and CEO of KidSwim. I started the company in 2001, with only myself and a few clients. KidSwim has since grown to a staff of sixteen instructors and clients throughout Los Angeles, The San Fernando Valley, Pasadena and Glendale, the Southbay and Orange County. Many of our instructors have been with the company for upwards of five to seven years now.
Swimming, for me, is one of the true joys of life. I can spend hours in a pool (and do!) and now as a mother of two boys, I can frequently be found in my own pool with my husband and sons. As a parent I can highly recommend swimming as one of the best ways to have bonding time with your kids while getting exercise.
I have been teaching actively since the age of eighteen. I worked as the aquatic director at both the Westside and Santa Monica YMCAs, spent several summers working the aquatics venue at the Summer Games for the Special Olympics, taught swimming in Japan, New York, Maine and was certified as a lifeguard trainer.
I believe that time spent in the water benefits all of us. It is healing for those that suffer from various physical ailments, it can be transformative for children with special needs - both physical and mental; it can often be the only sport allowed for athletes who are recovering from an injury or elderly people who’ve suffered from strokes, heart attacks or broken bones. The water knows no prejudice and any person of any age with any set of obstacles can learn to swim - period. I’m honored to be a part of the world in which people seek our guidance for this amazing gift.
